Catholic Schools Week this week in Prescott

St. Joseph's Catholic School in Prescott is celebrating Catholic Schools Week all this week. 

The theme for this year is faith, knowledge, and service. Faith, being not just the basics of Christianity, but how to have a relationship with God. Knowledge, in that in Catholic schools, students are held to very high standards to help each child reach his or her potential. Finally, they are taught service, the giving of one's time, talent, and treasure to help others, both as an expression of faith and good citizenship.

Therefore, the School has events planned all this week. The following is the schedule, starting for Tuesday, January 28:

-- January 28: School Spelling Bee at 10 a.m. in the gymnasium. Parents, parishioners and the community are welcomed. Community members are also invited to visit and tour the school. Students in grades four through six will be heading to the Sky Zone in Oakdale, Minn. The day wraps up with a kindergarten open house 6:30-8 p.m. where all parents and children are invited to explore and learn about the Kindergarten experience and a Christian education.

--January 29: Dress- School pride -- Uniforms. The theme is St. Joseph's School parents, parishioners, employees and volunteers are a community of faith, knowledge and service. Parents and family members, parishioners, employees, volunteers and the community are welcome for a mass at 8:15 a.m. at the Church. Afterwards, there will be a continental breakfast at 9 a.m. in the gymnasium as a thank you to the public. The fifth and sixth graders will be hosting a concert at the Prescott Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. In addition, the Kindergarten through third graders will be heading to Edinborough Park in Edina, Minn.

-- January 30: Dress -- Topsy-Turvey Thursday. The theme is St. Joseph's School is a community of faith, knowledge and service. A Quiz Bowl competition at 1 p.m. in the gymnasium in which the public is welcome.

-- January 31: Dress -- Olympic Country Colors. The theme is St. Joseph's School is a community of faith, knowledge and service to the world. The World Olympics is from 12:45-3 p.m. in the gymnasium in which the public is welcome. The week concludes with a Spaghetti Dinner, Bingo Night and Raffle from 5-8 p.m. in the gymnasium. The public is welcome.
