Academic award accepted

St. Francis School in Ellsworth has been recognized as one of three diocesan schools in this region for academic excellence. The award is based on schools whose exit grade (grade five locally) scored in the top four percent in the nation on the Iowa Tests of Basic Skills given last fall. The award is a result of outstanding work by St. Francis’ entire staff as they work together to provide a quality Catholic education for all of the students. This cumulative result at grade five is made possible through standards of academic excellence at each grade level and a firm commitment by the staff to help students reach their full God-given potential, along with the support of the parents. Some staffers assembled for an award recognition event last week, including in the back row: Kay Lee Penton, Mary Kiefer, Sarah Matzek, Mary Gardas and Barb Murphy; and, in the front row: Jeanne McCoy (holding the award), Dawn Koch, Kathy Swanson and Liza Chatt. The other schools in the Eau Claire area so honored this year are St. Joseph in Menomonie and St. Peter’s in Tilden. (Herald photo by Bill Kirk)
