Area students perform at area music festival
Students from Ellsworth, Prescott, River Falls and New Richmond enjoyed a day of music at New Richmond Middle School on Feb. 17 during a large group festival organized by Rich Gregerson, band director.
The large group festival gave students an opportunity to play contest pieces and get feedback from their peers. At the end of the day, the group performed for other New Richmond students and staff.
"A lot of you are athletes and might see some of your competitors out here but today we're all on the same team," Richardson said to the group.
To conclude the day, the roughly 200 students performed two piece together under the direction of guest clinician Rob Mondlock, a former Elk Mound High School band director and the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire chorus director.
"I've come up with a name for this mass band using the first letter of the names of each of the schools," Mondlock told the students on Wednesday. "NERP."
Mass band selections included "Largo and Finale" and "Stray Cat Strut."
