County board doesn't act on coordinator request

The wait continues in Pierce County's search for a new administrative coordinator.

Monday, the county board deliberated for an hour in closed session before deciding to take no action on the issue.

The finance and personnel committee had recommended Rod Rommel for the position. Rommel, a fellow supervisor himself, wasn't at Monday's meeting. He represents District 7, made up of Wards 6 and 7 in the City of River Falls. He was elected in April.

In other action, the board approved the purchase of a Volvo rubber-tired excavator. Highway Commissioner Chad Johnson explained the excavator will have a boom mower attachment in addition to a bucket. The new excavator will replace two farm tractors scheduled for replacement this year. Johnson said benefits of the new mower include allowing for more reach, along with doing well in storm damage areas.

He added there was a rush for this purchase, as the price ($229,500) was good only through the year and it wasn't going to go down. It comes with a guaranteed buyback of $130,500 in five years.

The next scheduled board meeting will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 28.
