Economic Growth in Western Wisconsin

A recent report in “The Wisconsin Taxpayer” publication, gives us reason to celebrate in western Wisconsin. Here we have seen both strong financial and job growth which underlines the fact that our area of the state is a source of economic strength. Please note the following statistics from “The Wisconsin Taxpayer” regarding what we are doing right in western Wisconsin:

Population growth: The west grew faster (9.7%) than the state (6.3%).

Jobs and Wages: Employment rose 5.0% during 2000-12 compared to a 1.4 % decline statewide and a modest 1.4% increase nationally. Western Wisconsin also added better paying jobs. Between 2000-11 earnings increased more in our region (40.2%) than any region. The state increased earnings at 36.4% during the same time frame and nationally, wages increased 34.7%.

Growth Sectors: Employment in education and health care services grew 39.8% in our area of the state compared to 27.4% for the state. Employment in natural resources and mining grew by 88.0% in western Wisconsin compared to 40.3% for the state. Most of this growth can be attributed to dairy farming. Statewide dairy farming jobs have doubled since 2000.

Income and Job Growth: As our region grows and more jobs become available, western Wisconsin’s per capita income has increased with employment. Our area grew by 40.9% while the state averaged just 35.8%.

Congratulations to all of our outstanding employers, job creators, and private investors who have taken the risks necessary to invest in our area’s growth by putting people to work!
