Village of Ellsworth to meet with board on beer sales at fair

The Ellsworth Village Board Health, License and Welfare Committee will meet with the Pierce County Fair Board to discuss the possibility of beer sales on the Pierce County Fairgrounds in Ellsworth. The announcement was made by the village board Monday.

The fair board had requested a meeting of the committee to see if the village would be willing to amend and/or rescind three village ordinances prohibiting intoxicating liquor or fermented malt beverage in open container in or upon the Pierce County Fairgrounds during the fair.

A similar attempt to do this was made several years ago and caused a great deal of controversy, as have attempts to regulate beer sales around the fairgrounds. A beer garden has been in place right next to the fairgrounds behind the car wash.

No meeting date between the committee and the fair board has been set yet.

In other agenda item actions, the village board unanimously approved the state-mandated Cross Connection Control protection of public water systems. Trustees also unanimously approved the village ad for the Ellsworth Visitor's Guide, the village audit contract with Wipfli, the mobile home license with Evergreen Estates and they awarded the contract for janitorial services in the village hall.

The board also had a discussion on a new skateboard park within the village and referred it to the parks, recreation and development committee. Trustees also set the date for the village budget hearing as Monday, Dec. 3, and awarded the village garbage and recycling contract to Paul's Industrial Garage (PIG) of Hager City. The new service begins Jan. 1, 2013, and runs to Dec. 31, 2015. Village residents will not have to separate recyclables under the new service. Fees are based according to size of container.
