Legislature begins their session Tuesday
ST. PAUL - Will there be tax increases? That's one of the big questions as state lawmakers head back to the Minnesota Capitol to begin their 2013 legislative session tomorrow at noon.
The popular wisdom is that Democrats, who now control both the Minnesota House and the Senate, are generally more amenable to tax increases than their Republican counterparts who lost their majorities in the last election.
Governor Dayton is talking about restructuring the entire state tax system, and his revenue commissioner has been going around Minnesota getting public input. Among the possibilities that have been tossed out: a top-bracket income tax increase, raising the gasoline tax, or broadening the sales tax.
