The Ellsworth Public Library recently completed a summer filled with fun programs and events for all ages.

We had the largest numbers of reading program participants ever, with 111 adults, 37 teens, 191 children and 30 little ones in the early literacy program.

Winners in the teen and adult reading challenges were: Alex Hinerman, teen winner of a $50 gift certificate to Target; and Esther Keup, winner of the adult reading challenge with a $50 gift certificate to Shady Grove.

Every child K-fifth grade was able to earn a free book of their very own plus weekly treats and fun incentives throughout the program. Our early literacy winner of a small crib quilt was Mackenzie Hince.

Families enjoyed four weeks of Wednesday afternoon entertainers and a pool party. Our summer concert series of one evening a month in the East End Park was attended by as many as 300-plus local folks, with music by “The Teddy Bear Band,” the “Okee Dokee Brothers,” and “Pint-Size Polkas.” We hope to continue the evening concert series next summer.

We appreciate our local supporters for their donations: Flat Pennies, Cubby’s Hollywood Video and Pizza, and Dairy Queen. Also, a big gratitude to Zion Covenant Church for the use of their building when the weather didn’t cooperate with us.

Be sure to watch for our fall line-up of fun-filled activities, programs and story times. If you’d like more information about the library and its programs, stop in, call 715-273-3209 or check out our website at The library is also on Facebook!
