Roger Eugene Bjork

Roger Eugene Bjork, age 74 of Ellsworth, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Wednesday, October 25, 2017. Roger was born December 12, 1942 in Hastings MN to Ralph and Helen (Gutting) Bjork. Roger attended school in Ellsworth, and graduated from Ellsworth High School with the Class of 1961. He attended Dunwoody Institute for two years, where he pursued a degree in Drafting and Surveying. On December 10, 1970, Roger would be united in marriage to Marilyn Gipford. Roger worked for 17 years at the Standard station in Ellsworth, before working for the Village of Ellsworth Public Works. He retired in 2008 after 26 years. Roger also served his community as a member of the Ellsworth Fire Department, and as a sexton at the Maple Grove Cemetery. He was instrumental in many improvements at the cemetery, the construction of the new' Fire Hall that was recently added on to, and getting involved in projects around East Ellsworth as well. Roger and his six brothers held a strong family bond, and would help each other out with all kinds of family projects. Roger loved to lend a hand, and could build, modify, or fix most anything. He was a thinker who paid attention to the details. In his free time, Roger loved to go fishing; especially ice fishing. He also enjoyed snowmobiling, camping, and model railroading. Above all though, Roger cherished time spent with his family. His grandchildren meant the world to him. Roger is survived by his loving wife, Marilyn; his daughters, Tammy (Troy Thomas) Hase of Rosemount MN, and Teresa (Robert) Rhiel of Ellsworth; his son, Thomas (Angela) Bjork of Ellsworth; grandsons, Joe (Taylor) Schoeder, Mitchell (Cassidy) Rhiel, Brady (Emily) Hase, and Carter and Myles Bjork; great-granddaughter, Eloise Rhiel; brothers, Robert (Annette), Ron (Diane), Larry (Debi), Dan (Carol), and Scott (Joanie); sisters, Bev (Tom) Radkey, and Vicki (Curt) Wandmacher; sister-in-law, Patricia Bjork; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Roger was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, David; and his grandson, Nicholas Rhiel. A Celebration of Life honoring Roger Bjork will be held from 4:00-7:00pm on Saturday, November 4, 2017 at the Ridgetop Event Center, W10516 US Hwy 10 in rural Prescott, WI. A private family burial will be held. In lieu of flowers, memorials should be directed to the family, and will be used for community-minded works that Roger would have gotten involved with. Services were entrusted to the O'Connell-Benedict Funeral Home of Ellsworth. 715-273-4421
