Panther boys' track team wins new coach's debut

RIVER FALLS - New Ellsworth High School boys' track and field head coach Jon Dodge saw his team win its first meet of the season last Tuesday at the Knowles Center on the campus of UW-River Falls.

EHS won the triangular meet with 81 points to Somerset's 39 and Mondovi's 35 points.

The Panthers had a total of 10 first place finishes for 50 points of their team scores. Winners include Nick Niedfeldt in the 55-meter dash in 6.9 seconds; Clayton Bayer in the 400-meter dash in :57.90 seconds; Hayden Hauschildt in the 1600-meter run in 5:09.90; David Klawitter in the 2400-meter run in 8:27.60; Dane Solyntjes in the pole vault with a height of 10-6; Lucas Cuddy in the long jump with a leap of 18-8 and Andrew Schneider-Adams in the shot put with a distance of 44 feet, seven inches.

EHS also won all three relay races. Their time in the 800-meter relay was :41.90; the 1600-meter, 3:51.50 and the 3200-meter, 9:29.

Members of the 800 relay team were Alex Schmidt, Shawn Helmueller, Nathan Pazdernik and Niedfeldt. The 1600 relay team consisted of Riley Johnson, Bayer, Pazdernik and Niedfeldt and the 3200 team had, as its members, Hauschildt, Bayer, Aaron Samuel and Isaac Taplin.

Other placewinners for the Panthers were Cuddy and Seth Seymour, third and fourth in the 55-meter dash; Pazdernik, fourth in the 200 and second in the high jump; Johnson, third in the 400; Matt Huppert, second in the 1600-meter run and third in the 800-meter run; Aaron Samuel, third in the 800; Taplin, second in the 2400; Solyntjes, second in the 55-meter hurdles and third in the long jump; Matt Solyntjes, third in the pole vault; Josh Fuchs, second in the triple jump and Nick Oeltjen, fourth in the shot put.

Ellsworth's girls' team finished second to Somerset's powerful squad 78-49 in their first meet of the season. Mondovi was third with 26 points.

Winning events for the Purple in the girls' meet were Macy Olson in the half-mile in 2:31.40; Taylor Murphy in the mile run in 6:19.20; Alyce Hines in the 2400-meter run in 10:14.50; Carlie Melstrom in the 400-meter dash in 1:02.80 and the triple jump in 31 feet, 11 inches.

Ellsworth also won the 800 and 3200 relay races. The 800 team consisted of Bailey Sherwin, Shannon Campbell, Lydia Kuhl and Melstrom and had time of 1:54.40. The 3200 team had a time of 10:56 and was made up of Kylie Bjorkman, Macy Olson, Hines and Murphy.

Other Panther points came from Sherwin, fourth in the 55-meter dash; Campbell, second in the triple jump and fourth in the 400; Bjorkman, third in the high jump; Sabine Rudolph, third in the pole vault and Mariah Shonkweiler, second in the shot put.

Ellsworth begins its outdoor season Tuesday at the Prescott Invitational.
