Cudds take over as River Falls High School wrestling coaches

RIVER FALLS - Between them the cousins won three state individual championships and five medals at the WIAA State Wrestling Tournament during their high school careers.

The men won a total of three individual state championships and earned five total medals while wrestling for River Falls during their high school careers.

Brady Cudd has served as an assistant with the Wildcats for the last three years, first under his old coach Dave Brandvold and the last two years alongside Jon Lantz, who stepped down at the end of last season.

"I'm pretty excited about working with Joe and the group of kids we have," Brady said. "I don't think we could imagine coaching anywhere else. We've been part of this program since we were six years old."

Joe Cudd said he's also looking forward to coaching in the town where he grew up and competed.

"I think it's a huge advantage," he said. "I'm already familiar with the kids and the residents and the booster club. I'm very excited. We've got high expectations."

Joe's father, Pauly Cudd, was the first state champion wrestler in River Falls High School history in 1971. In 1997 they became the second-ever father-son champions in state history. Joe's brother, Josh, was a two-time conference champion and a state qualifier in 1992.

Brady's brothers Colin, a current member of the University of Wisconsin wrestling team, and Logan, who will be a junior with the Wildcats this season, have multiple medals from the state tournament as well. Together the three have eight state tournament berths between them, the most in RFHS history by brothers.
