Pirates improve to 2-0 on league standings

A 4-0 early lead proved insurmountable for Ellsworth as they lost to Prescott 4-2 Sunday in St. Croix Valley League play.

The Pirates scored two runs each in the second and fourth innings. Alex Ross led Prescott with three RBIs, two coming off a single in the second.

Both of Ellsworth's runs came off a double in the fifth from J.P. Paulson.

Jim French hit a double for the Pirates while Justin Tobias scored twice.

Plum City got its first league win 1-0 over Bay City

Zach Watkins of Plum City broke up a pitchers' duel Saturday at Bay City with an RBI single in the third inning.

Chase Nelson walked and stole second before Watkins singled at Hortenbach Park.

Winning pitcher Tony Garner threw a complete-game, giving up just four hits, only three walks and 12 strikeouts.

Watkins and Cory Breidung each had two hits for the Blues. Jordan Eggenberger and Cole Kuesel combined to give up six hits and six walks while striking out nine for Bay City. Shane Strain had two hits for the Bombers.

The Bombers fell to 0-2 in the league as they lost at Hager City Sunday 8-2.

Winning pitcher Wyatt Rowe went seven innings and gave up one hit. Both of BC's runs were unearned. Bump Ulvenes and Travis Balster had their lone hits.

The Skeeters' were led by doubles from Ross Sweig and Chase Melstrom. Sweig had three hits and Melstrom had two. Dan Rouchen drove in two runs for HC and Gary Dushbabek scored twice.

This was Hager City's first SCVL contest. Also winning their league opener was Elmwood, 2-0 at New Richmond Sunday.

Dylan DeMotts pitched a complete gamer three-hitter for the Expos while striking out eight. Eric Konsela had two hits and scored a run for the Expos while Jonah Lansing and Boomer Keys both had RBIs.
