Raider defense tough once more in 5-0 shutout of SV-PC

Third baseman Billie Nelson grabs this fly ball.

ELMWOOD - Over its last six games, Elmwood High School's softball team has given up just seven runs. It's no coincidence then the Raiders have won six in a row, including Monday's 5-0 win over Pierce County rival Spring Valley-Plum City.

The win avenged an earlier 7-6 loss to the Cardinals.

Winning pitcher Kelsey Leach gave up six hits but they were scattered to six batters and none were for extra bases. She also once again gave up no walks.

Renee Lehman and Ali Pax each had two hits to lead Elmwood, who scored all their runs in the first two innings.

Elmwood, ranked No. 13 in the state in Division 4, closes its regular season with a 13-5 record, 12-4 in in the Dunn-St. Croix conference and will play in the WIAA regional semifinals next Tuesday at home. The Cardinals play at Whitehall Thursday in the first round of their Division 3 regional tournament. SV-PC has a 4-11 D-SC record, 4-12 overall.
