Prescott lone county softball team still in regional tourney

Prescott emerged from Wednesday's WIAA regional semifinal softball action as the only Pierce County team still going as Elmwood, Ellsworth and Spring Valley-Plum City all were eliminated.

The Cardinals host their Division 3 regional final game Thursday at Biggs Field against Arcadia in a re-match of last year's final.

Prescott topped SV-PC 8-1 Wednesday at home. Winning pitcher Kallie Krech threw a two-hitter and struck out seven. The Cards' Sophie Carlson was 3-for-3 with a run batted in and three runs scored. Alyssa Krings was 2-for-4 with an RBI and Mary Kate Pryor was 2-for-4 with a double one run and one RBI. And Rachele Johnson was 2-for-3 with a run scored and team-leading three RBIs.

Ellsworth lost at home 6-5 to rival Durand in Division 2. Durand scored four runs in the the third inning to reverse a 3-1 deficit helped by a pair of errors. Only two of Durand's runs were earned. Mackenzie Diercks hit a home run for Ellsworth while Taylor Nelson drove in two runs with a single.

Elmwood struggled at the plate and lost in Division 4 at home to Eau Claire Immanuel Lutheran 4-2. The Lancers' Amy Roehl blasted a three-run homer in the third inning to eliminate and early 2-0 deficit. Renee Lehmann had two hits, both doubles, to lead the Raiders.
