PC pushes but can't topple Mondovi

Niky Dierks puts her arms out to make a bump.

MONDOVI - Plum City High School's volleyball team played a full five-game match against Mondovi, the first time in many years they could do so.

The end result, however, was still short of victory as the Buffaloes rallied for wins in Games 4 and 5 to beat the Blue Devils 3-2 and stay undefeated in the Dunn-St. Croix Conference at 4-0. Plum City drops to 3-1, 10-16 overall.

Mondovi won Game 1 25-17 but Plum City displayed its serving prowess and strength at the net to win Games 2 and 3 by scores of 25-17 and 25-18.

Plum City led 12-10 in Game 4 after falling behind 11-5 to start with. The game was tied 19-19 but the Buffaloes outscored the visitors 6-2 led by kills from Ally Thompson and Lisa Stoughton to win 25-21.

The Devils led again, 8-3 and 13-9 in Game 5. But Mondovi's defense once again stepped up to dig out Plum City's spikes and serves they failed to do earlier in the match. And once again PC could not handle the Buffaloes' outside hitting from the left-side of the floor as Thompson buried three kills to rally her team to a 15-13 Game 5 win.
