Panthers hold on to beat Cardinals 60-54

Ellsworth High School's boys' basketball team saw a 17-point lead evaporate in the fourth quarter against Prescott. But the Panthers held on to win 60-54 Tuesday evening at home.

Ellsworth outscored Prescott 24-10 in the first half to turn a 9-9 first quarter tie into a 33-19 halftime lead. The Purple led by as many as 17 points in the second half led by Jimmy Miska's game-high 31 points.

Put the Cardinals, led by the scoring of Trevor Steger and Karl Stenerson fought their way back to cut the Panther lead to two at 56-54 with 25 seconds to go. Yet Chris Niedfeldt made four straight field goals to seal the win for the home team.

Stenerson, who scored just two points in the first half, scored 11 points in the second half. Steger finished with 24 points. Miska was the only Ellsworth player in double figures. Daigen Afdahl finished with eight points and Niedfeldt scored six points.

Ellsworth snapped a two-game losing streak and improves to 7-3 overall and tied itself with Prescott at 4-2 in the Middle Border Conference. Prescott drops to 7-6 overall. The Cardinals are at Amery Friday.
