SPRING VALLEY - The dual meet between Spring Valley-Elmwood and Boyceville and the Dunn-St. Croix Conference title itself came down to the last match between SVE's Brian Fesenmaier and Boyceville's Orin Hillman. Fesenmaier scored a 12-0 major decision to clinch it all Thursday at Spring Valley.

The Redbirds won 29-27 in an exciting meet in front of large crowd at SVHS and on Senior and Parent's Night. The title was the first for the Spring Valley-Elmwood co-op program. SV-Elmwood still has one more D-SC dual at Glenwood City on Tuesday but will do no worse than tie for the title.

Boyceville led from the start of the meet at 160 pounds, winning four out of the first five matches for a 15-4 advantage. But a forfeit win at 103 pounds for David Walker and pinfall for Brady Webb at 112 brought SVE back, trailing 18-16.

From then on both teams traded victories as SV-Elmwood won at 119 with Nick Berg's 9-2 win over Bryor Hellmann, 130 with Zac Newton's 8-2 decision over Dominic Olson and at 140 with Conner Sieracki's 4-2 win over Ben Marusak.

"We figured 140 was going to be a big match and it was," SVE head coach Carter Turner said. "We needed to win it, we needed to avoid pins or big losses to their best wrestlers and we that and worked out great to have Brian close out the meet for us."

Fensemaier dominated his match the whole way, nearly pinning Hillman on a couple occasions.

"It made it a lot easier to wrestle knowing I just needed to win instead of having to get a pin or tech. fall," Fesenmaier said.

SVE improves to 12-0and 3-0 in the D-SC while the Bulldogs drop to 13-2 and 3-1, their only other loss this season being to nationally ranked Apple Valley, Minn. in the Wisconsin Dells Invitational.
