Groh will step down as head grid coach at Ellsworth HS

Ellsworth High School head football coach John Groh.

John Groh announced his resignation as head football coach at Ellsworth Thursday. A search has begun for a replacement which reportedly will be chosen by June.

While Groh only had a 2-16 overall record at EHS, he did help the program snap a 23-game overall losing streak and a long losing streak to Osceola as well during the 2010 season. Groh said he will stay on the job until a replacement is found.

Groh said he's stepping down in order to spend more time with his family, his wife and his four daughters, plus pursue a position in education administration.

"It isn't just a job where you are only busy in the fall," Groh said. "Even right now we're making plans for weight training, conditioning, camps, you name it. It's been like that for the past three years and its been a lot of hard work and lot a time away from home, for all of us. But its been worth it to get the program which I love back on its feet and lay the foundation for future success."

Groh said he hopes the school hires someone on the current staff to take his place to keep the program intact.
