Webb back in the state finals

Brady Webb pulls back the arm of Mineral Point's Deven Walrack.

MADISON - Spring Valley-Elmwood's Brady Webb will try to win the state championship which eluded him last year in Saturday's WIAA State Individual Wrestling Tournament finals.

Webb made back to the finals with a 6-0 win over Mineral Point's Deven Walrack in the Division 3, 112-pound semifinals. He'll take on Coleman senior Chett Birr (33-7).

Webb scored his points in the second period. Riding Walrack, he was able to score two three-point nearfalls. He never let Walrack have any opportunities to score on him as controlled the pace and tempo of the match the whole way.

"I knew I could turn him over and that was my strategy," Webb said.

SV-Elmwood head coach Carter Turner was pleased with the way Webb handled the match.

"He took control right away," Turner said. "Even though he didn't score any points in the first period, the way he wrestled showed it was his match to lose and he didn't."

Webb had the same control of his quarterfinal match 8-2 over Peshtigo's Josh Bayer earlier in the day, giving up a late reversal after a two-point nearfall put him ahead 7-0.
