Prescott and Bay City pick up wins in SCVL play

Both Prescott and Bay City were the winners from Pierce County in last weekend's schedule of St. Croix Valley League games.

Prescott shutout Hudson 7-0 at Hudson Sunday. The Pirates went ahead 4-0 in their first at bats and never looked back. Chris Terrazas cracked a three run homer for Prescott and teammate hit a two-run shot. He had two hits and winning pitcher Nick Johnson had three, including a double. Prescott's Chuck Block also went 3-for-4 with a double.

Bay City won at St. Croix Falls Sunday by a 13-8 score. The Bombers had two big innings, the fourth and sixth where they scored a combined 10 runs and led 13-2. Only a six-run seventh by the Bandits kept the score close. BC compiled 14 hits led by Steve Bowe's three, which included a double, an RBI and two runs scored. Hayden Flack also scored twice and had two hits, including an RBI. Justin Lance and Jamie Tri had two hits as well for Bay City and Tanner Eggenberger belted a two-run homer. Cole Kuesel was the winning pitcher. He struck out seven in five innings and held St. Croix Falls' to just two hits. Jordan Eggenberger and Tony Schultz finished out the game in relief.

Hager City, on the other hand, was a county team which did not win last week as they were pummeled at New Richmond Sunday 14-3 in seven innings. NR's Dan Leavens hit a grand slam in a seven-run third inning. Besides the homer, HC also gave up six errors to the Millers.

"We kind of kicked the ball around," Brathall said to the Red Wing -Republican-Eagle. "We didn't look very sharp at all."

Ellsworth's SCVL opener at Osceola Saturday evening was rained out. No make-up date has been set yet.
