Valley dominates in Homecoming win

SPRING VALLEY - Spring Valley won its first Homecoming game in several years by wiping out Colfax 42-7 Friday at Syverson Park.

The No. 13 ranked Cardinals put up 34 points in the first half and started the game with the bang of Andy Bune's 75-yard kick-off return. And after the Vikings scored on their first possession of the game, Bune had another big play in the first quarter with a 54-yard run from scrimmage. Valley's Homecoming king had 112 yards on eight carries.

SV took control of the game in the second quarter. Quarterback John Newton scored on a one-yard TD run, Kyle Bosshart scored on one-yard run and running back Steve Von Haden scored on a 12-yard run. Both Bosshart and Von Haden rushed for 65 yards as the Cards had 367 yards rushing on 51 carries.


Von Haden capped a long, physical scoring drive in the second half with a three-yard touchdown which ate up plenty of time and left a running clock for the rest of the contest.

Spring Valley improves to 5-1 overall and 2-1 in the Dunn-St. Croix Conference. The Cards' can clinch a playoff berth next Friday with a win over Mondovi.
