Prep cross country sectional meets today

Pierce County prep cross country teams will try to send runners to the WIAA state meet this weekend at their respective sectional meets.

The top two teams and top five runners not on a qualifying team will advance to the state meet next weekend in Wisconsin Rapids.

Ellsworth and Prescott will compete at the Division 2 meet at Skyline Golf Course in Black River Falls. The meet begins at 10:45 a.m. Also there besides the host Black River Falls will be Adams-Friendship, Altoona, La Crosse Aquinas, Durand, Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau, Loyal/Granton/Greenwood, Mauston, Nekoosa/Port Edwards, Sparta, Viroqua, West Salem and Wisconsin Dells.

Aquinas has the No. 11 best team in the state in Division 2 boys while there are no ranked teams in the field in the girls meet. Prescott's Cole Hauenstein and Victoria Simones will look to make return trips to the state meet, Hauenstein for the second time and Simones for the fourth time in a row.

Spring Valley's girls team, ranked No. 8 in the state in Division 3, will look to defend the sectional title they won last season at Fall Creek and Spring Valley's Breanna Colbenson will look to win the 4000-meter race once again. The sectional meet will be held there again this Saturday beginning at 11 a.m.

No. 12 Colfax is also in the girls' field along with Elmwood/Plum City and Augusta, Boyceville, Cadott, Eau Claire Immanuel Lutheran, Eau Claire Regis, Eleva-Strum, Elk Mound, Gilman, Glenwood City, Lake Holcombe/Cornell, Chippewa Falls McDonell, New Auburn, Osseo-Fairchild and Stanley-Boyd.

Colfax is ranked No. 5 in the boys' field and McDonell is No. 11.
