PRESCOTT - Sam Smith ran for over 200 yards and scored a touchdown as Prescott defeated Elk Mound 34-15 Saturday to advance to the WIAA Division 5, Level 3 football playoffs.

Alex Helmer and Harry Cutler each added two touchdowns on the ground as the Cardinals (7-3 overall) dominated both sides of the lines as they sacked Mounder quarterback Nick Heit six times.

"We are a really physical team up front who showed off their strength and speed today," Prescott coach Matt Smith said.

Smith scored Prescott's first touchdown on a 37-yard scamper down the left sideline midway through the first quarter. And when Elk Mound was starting to garner some momentum after scoring their first touchdown in the fourth, Smith broke a tackle and busted a 79-yard run down the Prescott sideline, setting the stage for Cutler's second touchdown.

"He's been great all year for us," Matt Smith said. "But he has turned it on recently. He's hard between the tackles and has great breakaway speed. He's been fun to watch."

Added Sam Smith: "All the credit should go to the big guys up front. I wouldn't be anything without them."

Prescott next takes on defending Division 5 champion Colby. Time and date yet to be determined but the game will be at Colby.

"It's an exciting opportunity to take on the King," Matt Smith said. "We will give it our best effort."
