County prep track teams involved in weekend meets

Both the Ellsworth and Elmwood/Plum City prep track and field teams were involved in indoor meets over the weekend.

Elmwood/Plum City competed in the Northern Badger Track and Field Classic at UW-Stout's Johnson Fieldhouse in Menomonie Saturday, however with just a handful of athletes as others on the team were involved in Forensics last weekend as well.

EPC's 800-meter relay squad had the team's highest finish in the girls meet as they took third. Libby Feuker placed sixth in the 800-meter run. Andrew Gilles had the highest mark for the EPC boys taking fifth in the 1600 while teammate Hunter Schoengarth placed eighth in the 800.

Ellsworth had it's first meet of the 2013 season Friday at the G-E-T Early Bird Classic in Winona at St. Mary's University's Indoor facility. Other teams competing were Mondovi, West Salem, La Crosse Central, Eau Claire Regis, along with the host Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau. The meet was non-scored but EHS had several first place performances.

Alex Campbell picked up where he last off from last season as he took first in both the triple and long jumps. Campbell won the long jump with a leap of 20 feet, one inch and the triple in 42-5. Lucas Blodgett took second in the shot put with a throw of 45-9.

Ellsworth's Michaela DeGross won the pole vault with a height of 7-6 and Cassie Lofgren took first in high jump at 4-6.

Other place winners, on the girls' side were Olivia Helmer, fourth in the 55-meter dash; Kenzie Diercks, sixth in 200; Kim Hughes and Kayla Van Watermeulen, fourth and eighth place in the 400 respectively; Rebecca Ingalls and Kasey Mitchell, fourth and seventh in the 800; Desiry Matthews, seventh in the shot put. EHS also finished fifth in the 1600-meter relay, fourth in the 3200-meter relay and eighth in the 1600-meter sprint medley relay.

Placing in the top eight for the Ellsworth boys team were Dan Langer, eight in the 200-meter dash; Spencer Redding, seventh in the 400; Lucas Wieghart and Paul Truax, fifth and seventh in the 800; Richie Powers, sixth in the mile run and fifth in the pole vault and Davide Spinelli, sixth in the high jump. Ellsworth also finished third in the 3200-meter relay and sixth in the 1600 spring medley relay.

Both Ellsworth and EPC will compete in an indoor meet at UW-River Falls's Knowles Center on Tuesday starting at 4:30 p.m.
