County prep track and field teams together for meet in at SCC

HAMMOND - Nearly half of the field at Tuesday afternoon's prep track and field meet at St. Croix Central High School came from Pierce County.

Ellsworth, Prescott, Spring Valley and Elmwood/Plum City took part in the 10 school-meet.

EPC's girls came away with another meet title as they took first with 100 points. Prescott was second, Ellsworth fifth and Spring Valley, competing in its very first meet of the season was sixth.

Prescott took third in the boys meet behind Somerset and St. Croix Central. Ellsworth fourth, Spring Valley was fifth and EPC took sixth.

Spring Valley distance runner Breanna Colbenson picked-up where she left off from the fall as she won the 1600 (5:35) and 3200-meter (11:35.97) runs and helped lead SV's 3200-meter relay team, along with Riley Bowman, Emma Gaustad and Sara King, to victory in a time of 10:19.77. Also winning a first place medal for the Valley girls was Sam O'Brien in the 100-meter dash in :13.30 seconds.

Zac Webster won two firsts for Spring Valley's boys team in the meet. He took the high jump with a mark of 6-4 and the triple jump with a leap of 45 feet-11. Teammate Julian Manley won the 1600-meter run in 4:54.36.

Prescott's girls team was led again by Victoria Simones, as she won the 800 in 2:34.11, and Emily Bayer as she took first in the 400-meter dash in 1:04.73. PHS swept both races when Sam Smith took the 400 in :50.73 and Cole Hauenstein won the 800 in 1:59.26.

PHS's boys team also won the 3200-meter relay in 8:52.28 consisting of Hauenstein, Troy Urman, Zach Sobolewski and Jack Geiger and the 1600-meter relay in 3:32.57 consisting of Smith, Geiger, Hauenstein and Urman.

Ellsworth's boys team had a pair of first places from Logan Blodgett in the shot put with a throw of 45-11 and from their 800-meter relay team in 1:38.54. Team members are Brett Freier, Dan Langer, Evan Klawitter and Alex Campbell.

EPC's winners in the girls meet were Sarah Gilles in the 300-meter low hurdles in :49.65; Marah Boyer in the 200-meter dash in :28.37 and their 800-meter relay in 1:54.47 (Boyer, Gilles, Heather Van Holtum, Kaitlyn Lee) and 1600-meter relay in 4:33.25 (Von Holtum, Lee, Libby Feuker and Elaina Danzinger).

Prescott and Ellsworth will be in action Friday at the New Richmond Relays.
