EHS sweeps Durand, plays Prescott this afternoon

Ellsworth pulled away with a Middle Border Conference sweep Monday in Ellsworth, beating Durand 3-2 in Game 1, the 12-5 in Game 2.

In the series opener, the Panthers' Serena Hoisington pitched all five innings, striking out five and allowing just five hits, one walk and one earned run. On offense, Jenna George and Riley Harrison were each 1-for-2 with an RBI.

With two outs and the a Durand runner on third base, Ellsworth forced a ground-out to end the game with the game-tying run just 60 feet away.

In the night cap, Ellsworth tacked on five runs in the first inning before going up 7-1 through two.

Abby Giese was the Panthers' top hitter, going 3-for-4 with two doubles, three RBI and two runs scored. Nicole Olson was 2-for-3 with two RBI in the victory.

At 7-3 overall, Ellsworth closes out the regular season Tuesday at Prescott before opening the Division 2 Section 1 playoffs as the No. 3 seed against No. 6-seeded Somerset Thursday in Ellsworth.

Prescott will be coming into today's contests off a doubleheader sweep too. The Cardinals downed Somerset yesterday 6-2 and 7-6 at Somerset to snap a eight-game losing streak. The wins put PHS at 4-8 in league play.
