Spring Valley golfers punch ticket for sectionals

COLFAX - Spring Valley High School's boys' golf team was able to place third in Wednesday's rainy and cold WIAA Division 3 Colfax Regional meet at Whitetail Golf Course.

The Cardinals shot a combined 346 in the 18-hole meet. They were only seven strokes behind regional champion Grantsburg and three behind runner-up Glenwood City.

Also qualifying for sectionals was Clear Lake as they shot a 356 to finish fourth from the nine-team regional meet.

Valley secured their spot in Tuesday's sectional meet by having three golfers make the top 10 individually. Jacob Richardson shot an 85 to finish seventh followed by Taylor Leach's 86 to take eighth and James Hannack's 87 which put him in a tie for ninth place.

SV's Jason Richardson finished 12th with a score of 88 and teammate Nick Jensen shot a 91 to put all of the Cardinal's golfers in the top 20.

Hannack and Richardson qualified for sectionals individually last year.

Also qualifying individually from the meet were Siren's Jake Swenson, who finished third with a score of 81 to meet medalist Jake Hierlmeier of Glenwood City (79) and Grantsburg's Jordan Knutson (80); Cameron's Cody Pumala, Jordan Bazey of Luck/Frederic and Whitney DeMoe of Colfax.

The sectional meet is next Tuesday at Rice Lake's Turtleback Golf Course with Cameron as the host school. The meet begins at 9 a.m.
