Prescott wins sectional title in boys track

BLOOMER - Sam Smith and Cole Hauenstein won sectional titles both individually and as members of the 1600-meter relay team, which lifted the Prescott High School boys track and field team to its firs boys sectional championship since 1974 Thursday at the WIAA Division 2 Bloomer Sectional.

Samith won the 400-meter dash in just under :50 seconds and Hauenstein had no problems winning the 800-meter run in 1:56.31. The were the first and last runners in PHS's 1600-meter relay which won in a time of 3:27.31. Also on the sectional title team are Pay Ballosh and Jack Geiger.

Smith also finished third in the 200. Individually Prescott also qualified Nick Jacobsen in the shot put as he finished fourth and will send its 800 and 3200 relay teams to state also. The 3200 squad finished second and the 800 fourth.

Ellsworth's boys team finished 13th and will send Alex Campbell to state again as he finished second in the triple jump. Brett Freier also made it in the 300 hurdles as he finished third.

Prescott's Victoria Simones took third the 800 and fourth in the 1600-meter runs and she was part of the Cardinals' 3200-meter relay team which finished third to qualify for state.
