Football: Ellsworth shuts out Amery

Four different players scored for Ellsworth in a 23-0 skunking of Amery Friday night.

Brandon VanderMarliere opened the Panthers scoring with a 19-yard run in the second quarter, a touchdown that was followed by Dan Giese’s 2-yard scoring run.

Dennis Schultz added a 20-yard field goal before halftime as Ellsworth held complete control of the game.

Giese finished with 93 yards on just nine carries while Schultz carried 12 times for 56 yards. VanderMarliere had 24 rushing yards on five touches. Ellsworth quarterback Emery Whalen completed 8 of 13 passes for 73 yards, including the

Panthers’ final score, an 11-yard connection to Jarek Fischer in the third quarter.

Amery managed just 96 yards of total offense, including a paltry 18 rushing yards on 24 carries.

The Panthers (4-0 overall, 2-0 Middle Border Conference) face defending state Division 4 champion Somerset for homecoming next week.
