ANAHEIM, CA. --  Minnesota star Zach Parise scored a goal and assisted on two others to lead the Wild to a 4-2 win over the Ducks at the Honda Center in Anaheim last night. Mikael Granlund and Jason Pominville added a goal and an assist each and Marco Scandella assisted on two goals for Minnesota. Darcy Kuemper saved 31 of 33 shots he faced. Dustin Penner scored for the Ducks in the loss. The Wild improved to 29-20-and-6. Anaheim lost its third game in the past six to drop to 39-11-and-5. The defeat was only the second in regulation on home ice for the Ducks, who still sport the NHL's best record. Minnesota skates against Colorado in Denver tomorrow night at 8 p.m.


Golden Gopher sophomore goaltender Adam Wilcox of South St. Paul has been named this week's Big Ten Conference Third Star award winner. Wilcox guided Minnesota to the inaugural North Star College Cup title at the Xcel Energy Center on Friday and Saturday nights. The Gophers beat No. 5 St. Cloud State and Minnesota-Duluth en route to the cup. Minnesota hosts Michigan State this Friday and Saturday in league play at Mariucci Arena.


Third-ranked North Dakota women's hockey wants to break an attendance record when the team hosts No. 1 Minnesota this weekend. In an effort to break the women's hockey attendance record at Ralph Engelstad Arena in Grand Forks, the school is selling tickets for one-dollar. The all-time record is just over 32-hundred fans, which the team missed by seven last season against Minnesota. The teams play on Friday and Saturday nights.


The Timberwolves are back home to take on the New Orleans Pelicans tonight at the Target Center. Minnesota will then host Memphis on Friday before traveling to Atlanta on Saturday. The T'wolves have won four-of-five following Monday's 95-86 victory in Chicago. They sit at 22-and-22 on the season. The Pelicans are 19-and-25 after beating the Cavaliers 100-89 in Cleveland last night. Anthony Davis poured in 30 points for New Orleans, while adding eight blocked shots and seven rebounds Tonight's game is set for 7 p.m. at the Target Center in Minneapolis.


Timberwolves center Nikola Pekovic is expected to be sidelined at least a week with bursitis in his right ankle. An MRI on Tuesday revealed the injury. Pekovic left Monday's win over the Bulls in the first quarter with discomfort in the ankle. The 28-year-old is averaging career-highs of 18 points and 9.1 rebounds in 44 games this season.


The Minnesota Golden Gophers are off until Saturday when Northwestern comes to town for a Big Ten showdown at Williams Arena. The Gopher men have alternated wins and losses over their last six games following Sunday's 82-78 setback at Nebraska. Minnesota sits at 15-and-6 on the year and 4-and-4 in conference play. Meanwhile, the Gopher women's team will entertain Iowa tonight at the Barn at 7 p.m. There are tickets remaining for both Gopher men's and women's games.


 University of Minnesota freshman wrestler Sam Brancale of Eden Prairie is this week's Big Ten Wrestler of the Week. The 125-pounder helped the third-ranked Golden Gophers upset No. 2 Iowa in Iowa City last weekend by beating No. 3 Thomas Gilman in a pin. Brancale scored six crucial team points for the dual meet, which ended with Minnesota winning 19-15. This is Brancale's first career weekly honor.


The Minnesota state Management and Budget Department has completed the sale of $462 million in bonds that will finance the state's portion for a new Minnesota Vikings stadium. The interest rate is 4.27-percent and the bonds are rated Double-A by Standard and Poors and by Fitch. Officials say after the closing of the bonds this week, the state's portion of stadium financing will be completed.
