EHS baseball 2-0, Panther softball team loses opener

The Ellsworth High school baseball team improved to 2-0 overall with an 8-4 win over Lake City yesterday at Lake City while EHS softball team lost its season opener to Durand at Arkansaw.

The EHS baseball team jumped out to a 6-1 lead in the first inning and held on for the win behind the effort of winning pitcher Eric McGregor. He struck out six Tiger batters in six innings of play. EHS outhit LC 11-5 and won despite committing three errors. Logan Armstrong and Spencer Schroeder both had two hits for Ellsworth and Luke Sterny the Panthers with two RBIs.  EHS hosts New Richmond Thursday at Brown Field in Hager City.

Ellsworth's softball team was only down 2-0 heading into the bottom of the fifth. But Durand scored eight runs in the inning to win the ballgame by 10-run rule.

Durand scored two runs to take a 4-0 lead and scored six more with two outs. Lexi Stewart drove in two runs with a single and winning pitcher Morganne Gruber with a bases clearing three-run double. Maise Radel also hit an RBI double for the home team.  Durand outhit Ellsworth 10-2. EHS did have a chance toi tie the score in the third but stranded two base runners after a base runner was caught in a run-down.
