MINNESOTA SPORTS ROUND-UP: Dozier singles Twins to win over White Sox

MINNEAPOLIS ( - Brian Dozier's RBI single in the ninth inning sent the Minnesota Twins past the Chicago White Sox, 5-4, on Friday.

Twins closer Glen Perkins squandered a 4-2 lead in the top of the ninth, but Minnesota rallied in the bottom half as Eduardo Escobar slid in safely with the game-winning run, narrowly beating Dayan Viciedo's throw from left field. Escobar added a two-run double earlier in the game, while Kurt Suzuki went 3- for-4 with a run scored and an RBI for the Twins, who had dropped five in a row before taking the first two meetings of this four-game set.

In the top of the ninth, Viciedo legged out a triple with one away and came around to score on Paul Konerko's pinch-hit single, pulling Chicago within a run. Tyler Flowers moved the tying run into scoring position with another base hit, and Adam Eaton's double down the third-base line brought in the tying run. The Twins opted to walk Gordon Beckham to load the bases, and the decision paid off with Perkins (3-0) inducing an inning-ending double-play ball off the bat of Conor Gillaspie.


Maya Moore had 20 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists as the Minnesota Lynx defeated the Washington Mystics, 75-65, on Friday night at the Target Center. Seimone Augustus netted 19 points, while Lindsay Whalen added 12 points and seven assists for the Lynx, who had dropped four of their last six games since beginning the year 7-0. Kara Lawson scored 14 points off the bench and Kia Vaughn posted 10 points and 13 boards for Washington, which has lost six of its last seven contests. Minnesota shot 46.4 percent (32-of-69) from the field while holding the Mystics to a 35.9 percent clip (23-of-64). The Lynx, who led by as many as 17 in the first half, held a 43-34 advantage at the break and cruised to victory in the second half.
