Valley boys clinch tie for D-SC hoops title

Given the way Spring Valley High School's boys basketball team finished last season, a one and done showing in the regionals, winning the Dunn-St. Croix title for 2007-08 season seemed like a dream.

Well dreams came true for the Cardinals last week as their 65-42 win at Colfax Tuesday and their 50-31 win at Mondovi Friday clinched a tie for the league title, SV's first since 2001 and first in the full 10-team D-SC since the early 1990s.

"This team has really matured well since last year," Bosshart said. "We're a more consistent team than anything else. We're playing good defense and our offense has more threats to score points than it did last year."

The common thread in any Spring Valley win this season has been both the inside scoring and rebounding of seniors Mitch Webster and Rick Ingli along with a rock solid defense.

Ingli produced last week with 16 points against the Vikings and 14 vs. the Buffaloes respectively. Webster had eight points in both contests. SV also had double 14 point games from point guard Tyler Bosshart.

Bosshart also lauded the play from his reserves and other starters like Cory Blaedorn and Dylan Webster. The Cardinals' Kyle Gotzman came off the bench to score nine points vs. Colfax and eight points vs. Mondovi.

Big third quarters have also been a Redbird trade mark. Valley outscored Colfax 21-6 after halftime and pummeled Mondovi 16-2 in the third quarter.
