Both County teams 1-1 in league

Ellsworth and Prescott went 1-1 in their first full week of Middle Border Conference softball play.

The Panthers started the week with a 5-4 comeback win at Baldwin-Woodville on April 14. Down 4-1 after five innings, Ellsworth rallied for two runs in the sixth and seventh innings.

Three players led EHS with two hits each, Cassidy Beard, Laura Kornmann and Hannah Zaborowski. All three players scored a run. Briana Firming led the Blackhawks with two hits.

Anita Blodgett was the winning pitcher, tossing a five-hitter with seven strikeouts. Tara Kimberly took the loss as Ellsworth outhit B-W 11-5.

EHS was able to get past Kimberly, one of the top pitchers in the league, but not New Richmond's Nikki Singerhouse. She led the Tigers to an 8-3 win at New Richmond Thursday.

NR was able to score four runs in the fourth inning for an insurmountable 6-0 lead, especially when Singerhouse recorded her 500th career strikeout.

The very next at bats for the Tigers, Singerhouse then added to her special day with a home run. Although both teams had eight hits, New Richmond had more big hits as Paige Spaulding went 3-for-4 with a double and triple and Hannah Bygd had three hits.

Ellsworth's Miranda Robey and Kelsey Johnson both drove in runs.

Meanwhile, Prescott started out with a 10-4 win on April 14 at home over Osceola. Alyssa Krings led the Cardinals with three hits and two RBIs. Teammates Carissa Boleen and Chloe Carlson each had two hits and one double. Carlson and Mary Johnson each drove in two runs. Boleen scored twice.

Carlson tossed a four-hitter with seven strikeouts to get the win.

Kimberly bounced back from the Ellsworth loss shackled the Redbirds' bats Thursday in a 7-2 by the Blackhawks at Prescott. She tossed s three-hitter with 10 strikeouts.

Johnson was Prescott's leading hitter with, including a double, to go with two RBIs. Boleen scored twice.

Ellsworth's re-scheduled league game with Durand was rained out Friday as was Prescott's invitational tournament on Saturday.
