EHS gets in first two dual meets

Ellsworth High School's boys' tennis team played its first two dual meets last week.

The Panthers took on River Falls in a non-conference meet back on April 24 and faced New Richmond in a Middle Border Conference meet last Tuesday.

In both duals, the Panthers played hard in several matches and had chances to win but fell at River Falls 5-2 and at New Richmond 7-0.

"The kids are playing well and we had our chances to win against two solid teams," EHS head coach Casey Keller said. "Hopefully we can convert those close losses into wins."

The Panthers' Willie Lutz won his No. 1 singles match against the Wildcats' Bobby Perkins McIntosh 6-4, 6-3 and Ellsworth's No. 2 singles player Drew Hipple survived a three-set match against River Falls' Sam Chatt 2-6, 6-2, 6-1.

EHS' Joey Kerr lost a close three-set match at No. 3 singles to Kusha Rahgozam 4-6, 7-6, 3-6 and the No. 1 doubles match was ended early when the Panthers' Coty McLaughlin suffered an injury and the Panthers' defaulted a point.

Although the Panthers did not win a point against New Richmond, they lost four matches in three sets. Lutz fell at No. 1 to Kyle Mitchell 6-0, 2-6, 2-6; the No. 1 doubles team of Dylan Greske and Andy Lutz lost to NR's Jordan Berget 6-1, 2-6, 5-7; EHS' doubles team of Adam Huppert and Jeff Stress lost 7-6, 2-6, 1-6 to the Tigers' Justice Harveaux and Chris Kieslen 7-6, 2-6, 1-6 and the No. 3 doubles match went to New Richmond's Drew Jensen and Jorden Aufderhan 2-6, 6-2, 2-6.
