Boys basketball: Flom records 1,000th career point

Ellsworth's Drake Flom scored his 1,000th career point and then some on Tuesday, Jan. 30 in the Panthers' 83-46 win over the Amery Warriors.

Flom shot 72 percent from the field and scored 21 points in his milestone night.

Alex Motley added 20 points, six rebounds, six assists and three steals, and Logan Benson finished with 13 points, 12 rebounds, five assists and two steals.

Logan Richards also reached the double-digit scoring mark with 11 points.

The Panthers (12-3, 7-1) are now on a seven-game winning streak and haven't lost since Dec. 27. They'll attempt to lengthen their streak and pick up another conference win on Friday, Feb. 2 when they host the Baldwin-Woodville Blackhawks (5-10, 1-7).

Prescott 86, Osceola 50

Prescott began a new winning streak on Tuesday, Jan. 30 after losing to Lake City on Saturday, Jan. 27.

The Cardinals (15-2, 9-0) won their 54th-consecutive Middle Border Conference game against the Osceola Chieftains Tuesday night, and are now 9-0 in conference play this season.

Peter Brookshaw put up 33 points in the conference matchup, and also recorded seven rebounds, five assists and two steals.

Parker Nielsen and Joe Roosen combined for 35 points; Nielsen had 18 while Roosen finished with 17 points. Nielsen also grabbed 11 rebounds to record his first double-double of the season.

Brian Tayson led the Cardinals in assists with seven dishes. The Prescott junior also recorded eight points, six rebounds and three steals.

The Cardinals are back at home on Thursday, Feb. 1 when they host the Somerset Spartans (4-11, 1-6).

Durand 67, Elmwood/Plum City 45

The Durand Panthers remain undefeated against Dunn-St. Croix Conference teams after their Tuesday night defeat over the EPC Wolves.

The Wolves were within nine points of the Panthers at halftime, but were outscored 39-26 in the second half to ultimately lose by 22 points.

The Panthers outrebounded the Wolves team 31-21 and committed five less turnovers than their conference opponent.

Luke Baier led the Wolves in scoring and rebounding with 15 points and five rebounds. Zack Phillips contributed 11 points two rebounds, two assists and two steals to his team's effort.

Durand's Riley Radle led all scorers with 18 points. TJ Tulip and Fletcher Weiss both added 10 points to their team's victory.

The Wolves dropped to 5-9 overall after Tuesday night, and are still looking for their second conference win of the season. Durand improved to 11-3 overall and 8-0 in conference play.

The Wolves will be granted another chance to improve their conference record on Thursday, Feb. 2 at Boyceville. The Bulldogs are the only team below the Wolves in the conference rankings with a Dunn-St. Croix record of 1-8.
