Valley, EPC both gridiron winners Friday

Both Spring Valley and Elmwood/Plum City's prep football teams improved their playoff positions with conference wins Friday evening.

Valley went to Hammond and stuffed St. Croix Central 25-7. The win improves SV's record to 5-2 overall and 3-2 in the Dunn-St. Croix Conference. A win in next's week's non-conference match-up vs. Spectrum, Minn. should clinch a bid for the Cardinals even if they finish no worse than 3-3 in the D-SC. Valley's last two ballgames vs. Spectrum and Glenwood City will be at Williams Stadium in Menomonie.

EPC won Elmwood's Homecoming game 29-14 over Lake Holcombe/Cornell. The Wolves improve to 3-4 overall and 2-2 in the Lakeland South. They need to split vs. their last two opponents, Clayton and No. 6 Alma/Pepin to at least go 3-3 in the LSC and snatch a probable playoff bid. However, both games are on the road as this was EPC's final home contest (Elmwood or Plum City) this season.

Sping Valley grinded out 372 rushing on nearly 60 carries against the Panthers (2-5, 2-2) led by 100-plus yard games for running backs Tyler O'Keefe and Jed Schlegel. The Cardinals broke a 7-7 tie at halftime with several big play touchdown runs including a 44-yard run for quarterback Zach Newton, a 63-yard run for Schlegel and a 38-yard interception return for score from Trenton Miller.

Quarterback Levi Wolf was back in the line-up for EPC after being injured vs. St. Croix Falls. He was near pinpoint accuracy with his passing as he went 12-of-16 for 164 yards and threw TD passes of 39 and 15 yards to Alex Boyer. Boyer caught six passes for 99 yards to lead the Wolves in receiving. Bryce Bock scored a pair one -yard touchdown runs for EPC as they built a 29-0 lead by the fourth quarter.
