PRESCOTT - There was no drama this time.

Prescott HIgh School's volleyball team didn't fall behind 2-0 and rally to win three straight games to beat Ellsworth as they back back on Oct. 3 in Prescott.

Instead, the Cardinals got in front 2-0 and stayed there on their way to a 3-0 sweep of the Panthers in a first round, WIAA Division 2 regional playoff game Tuesday. Game scores were 25-18, 25-17 and 25-22.

Prescott lead early in both games one and two. The Cardinals led by as many as six at 17-11 in game one after an Anna Weiser ace. Ellsworth came right back to come within a point at 18-17 after a kill by Chelsy Strom and were down 19-18 as well. But the Panthers were kept from scoring another point as Mariah Krings served out the remainder of game one with an ace of her own plus kills from Weiser and Alexis Maxwell.

The story was the same in game two as PHS led early at 9-4 but the Panthers rallied within a point at 14-13. But a kill by Lily Weiser put the momentum back in Prescott's favor and they outscored EHS 11-4 to win game two.

"We did a great job of managing momentum tonight," Prescott head coach Patti Tulip said. "We got off to good starts and then played our way out of any lulls or dips in energy on our part."

Ellsworth got the lead early in game three 7-5. Prescott came back and the game was even until the score was tied 20-20. The Cards outscored the Purple 5-2 thanks to kills from Anna Weiser and won both game and match.

Anna Weiser had the Redbirds' best all-around game with five blocks, eight kills, three aces and 14 digs.

Ellsworth coincludes its season 12-16 overall while Prescott improves to 27-16 and will play Thursday at Osceola in the regional semifinals.
