Prescott's Amanda Murphy, Spring Valley's Emma Gaustad and Elmwood/Plum City's Noah Wells will compete in next weekend's WIAA State Cross Country Meet. All three runners qualified at sectional meets held yesterday.

Murphy placed seventh in the Division 2 Arcadia Sectional at Schultz Farm. Murphy's time was 16:50. As a team the Prescott girls placed fourth out of the 15 schools competing. No. 13 ranked Mauston and Viroqua took the top two spots and will head to state as full teams. Ellsworth's top runner was Kelsey Betthauser who placed 30th in 18:07. The Panthers finished 13th overall.

Gaustad finished fourth in a time of 16:14 at the Division 3 Boyceville Sectional at Tiffany Creek Elementary School. The SV girls team finished fourth as well behind No. 13 Colfax and No. 12 Eau Claire Regis and No. 11 Fall Creek. EPC was 14th out of the 16 schools competing. Their best time and place was put in by Josie Tiffany, 35th in 17:52.

Wells is EPC's first-ever state qualifier. He finished eighth in 17:40. His teammate Andrew Gilles finished in 13th at 17:59. Their places helped EPC take sixth out of the 19 schools competing in the meet. Spring Valley was ninth led by Aidan Manley's 20th place finish in 18:31. No. 5 Chippewa Falls McDonell and No. 6 Eau Claire Immanuel Lutheran were the top two teams to qualify for state.

At the boys' meet in Arcadia, Prescott placed 10th and Ellsworth finished 15th. PHS's top time and place came from Phillip Pena, 32nd in 18:45 while Ellsworth's Carter Schultz was 33rd, also in 18:45.

The state meet is next weekend in Wisconsin Rapids at the Ridges Golf Course,  The D-3 girls race is the first one up at 11:30 a.m. followed by the D-2 girls race at 12:05 p.m. The D-3 boys race is set for 1:15 p.m.
