Pierce County Herald Athletes of the Week: Noah Wells, Nick Opdahl, Dennis Schutz, Emma Gaustad and Amanda Murphy

Prescott's Nick Opdahl.

Five prep high school athletes were tabbed as the Pierce County Herald's Athletes of the Week.

Three of them are cross country runners. They are Elmwood/Plum City's Noah Wells, Spring Valley's Emma Gaustad and Prescott's Amanda Murphy. They will all represent their teams, schools, communities and the county at the state meet this Saturday as all qualified last week in sectional meets. Wells is the first such state qualifier in the history of the Elmwood/Plum City co-op program.

Ellsworth's Dennis Schutz had another week of individual achievement on the football field as he scored five touchdowns and rushed for nearly 300 yards in the first half alone against St. Croix Central in EHS's first-ever home playoff victory last Friday.

Prescott football player Nick Opdahl scored a touchdown and notched a safety against Spooner in the Cardinals's first round playoff match-up last Saturday. With Opdahl's help, Prescott has now won Level 1 games in back-to-back seasons for the first time-ever as well.

The Pierce County Herald Athletes of the Week awards are sponsored by State Farm Insurance of Ellsworth, Denton Achenbach agency.
