ELMWOOD - A strong defensive effort by the Spring Valley High School boys' basketball team helped the Cardinals win their third game in a row Friday by a 58-21 score over rival Elmwood.

Thew tone for the game was set right in the first quarter as SV outscored the Raiders 15-3. The Cards held a 29-11 lead at halftime and situation for Elmwood only got worse in the second half as they were held to just one field goal until midway through the fourth quarter.

Jake Helmer had 17 points for Spring Valley to lead all scorers and Zac Webster finished 10 points, two of them coming on a dunk early in the third quarter. Six other SV players had between 3-7 points. Valley is now 4-01 overall and in the Dunn-St. Croix Conference.

Tyler Freyholtz had six point to lead Elmwood and Levi Wolf finished with five. The Raiders drop to 1-8 overall and 0-5 in the D-SC .

Elmwood is off until after New Year's while Spring Valley plays next Friday afternoon in the Clayton Invitational vs. Turtle Lake.
