No. 1 Spring Valley/Elmwood rallies to beat Boyceville 37-30

BOYCEVILLE - The No. 1 ranked Spring Valley/Elmwood prep wrestling co-op team won the final two matches of its dual meet with No. 6 ranked Boyceville to win 37-30 Thursday evening.

Trailing 30-27, SVE's Kevin Fesenmaier moved up from his usual 170-pound weight class to 182 pounds and beat the Bulldogs' Alex Lovett by a 13-3 major decision, putting the Redbirds ahead of their rivals by a point. 

Then Ethan Hofacker sealed the win for SV/Elmwood with a :52 second pinfall of Jake Erickson at 195.

The match started horribly for SVE as Boyceville won the first four matches to lead 18-0. But the Redbirds came back starting with Cruze Hurlburt's pin at 120 followed by a pin for Tyler Berg at 126. SVE also got wins from Logan and Zach Newton, Jed Schlegel and a pin from Trent Miller at 160 which gave Spring Valley/Elmwood the lead for the first time 27-24.

SVE improves to 9-0 overall in dual meets and 2-0 in the Dunn-St. Croix Conference. They can clinch a share of the league title next Thursday against Mondovi in Elmwood.
