Ellsworth- Amery prep wrestling showdown tonight (PCH Prep Wrestling Honor Roll)

Ellsworth High School's wrestling team takes on Amery in showdown of top-ranked Division 2 teams this evening in Amery.

The Panthers enter the meet the No. 1 ranked team in the state while the Warriors come in at No. 5. Amery has not beaten Ellsworth in a dual meet since 1986 and EHS carries a long Middle Border Conference winning streak as well.

The bulk of Ellsworth's strength in the middle and upper weights led by No. 1 ranked Gabe Frandsen at 160 pounds and top-ranked Logan Kemmerer at 170, Brock Steldt at 195 and Kenny Stowe at 220. Dennis Schutz has gone 7-1 since hitting the varsity line-up at 182 and Brodey Kemmerer is back at heavyweight. He went 3-0 last weekend at the Swalla Duals and his pinfall helped EHS upset Prior Lake, Minn.. The Panthers also have ranked wrestlers in Andres Lantz at 120, defending state champion Jens Lantz at 126 pounds, Brad Cain at 138 and No. 10 ranked Tristan Mueller at 145.

Amery will counter with three top-ranked wrestlers in the lower weights starting with Andrew Smith at 106; Austen Conner at 113 and Hunter Marko at 120. The Warriors also have top-ranked wrestlers like Johnny Benitez at 138; Bennett Paulson at 152; Broden Schock at 182; Eli Newton at 195 and Kenny Gates at 220.

Key weight classes battles in this dual meet could come at 138, 152 where Ellsworth's Josh Hines will look to knock off another top-10 wrestler this season; 182 and 195.

Amery is the highest ranked Wisconsin opponent Ellsworth has wrestled in a dual meet this season so far.

In other MBC dual meets this evening, Prescott is at Somerset, Osceola at Baldwin-Woodville and New Richmond is at Durand.

No. 1 Spring Valley/Elmwood will take part in a multi-dual meet at Menomonie on Friday.
