SPRING VALLEY - Outscoring Elmwood 19-3 in the second quarter helped the Spring Valley High School girls basketball team defeat Elmwood Friday 45-26.

The SV press and the turnovers it produced proved too much for the Raiders to overcome. They were able to knot the ballgame at 8-8 at the end of the first quarter before falling behind 27-12 at halftime.

The Cardinals also had two players in double figures in scoring led by Emily Boisen's 12 points and Becky Fesenmaier's 10 points.

Justine Weix was Elmwood's co-leading scorer with six points, all coming from the free-throw line. Kaitlyn Lee also scored six points.

Valley improves to 3-8 overall, 2-6 in the Dunn-St. Croix conference. The win moves the Cards' up in the standings to a sixth place tie with Plum City. Spring Valley has opportunities for more wins as it hosts Clear Lake on Monday and Elk Mound on Tuesday. Elmwood drops to 1-11 overall and is still winless in league play.
