Three thirds and a fourth for SVE at state

Spring Valley/Elmwood's Ethan Hofacker was one of three SVE wrestlers to take third in the state wrestling tournament.

MADISON - The Spring Valley/Elmwood team will come away three third places and fourth place result from 71st WIAA State Wrestling Tournament Saturday.

SV/Elmwood had four wrestlers competing in the placement matches and all won their first matches in the morning to advance to the third-place match in their respective Division 3 weight classes .

Cruze Hurlburt, 44-2 overall,  major decisioned Austin Najbrt of Cadott (40-11) 9-1  in another go-round between two western Wisconsin grapplers. Tyler Berg (44-5) downed Jensyn Schaal (30-6) of Coleman 4-2, Zach Newton bounced back from his semifinal loss last night to beat Boone Young (41-7) of Mishicot 5-2 and Ethan Hofacker (44-4) received a forfeit from David Steinhorst (40-5) of Kewaunee.

In the third place matches, Hurlburt decisioned Brandon Depies (46-4) of Random Lake 8-4, Berg downed another Random Lake wrestler, Jon Mudlaff (43-7) in overtime 2-1, Newton had a rematch with Coleman's Trevor Seewald (44-3) and lost 7-1 and Hofacker downed Shiocton's Dominic Gunderson (45-5) 5-2.
