PIERCE COUNTY PREP SCOREBOARD: Golf season now underway

The prep golf season is now underway with the first Middle Border Conference meet taking place Monday at Clifton Highlands Golf Course in Clifton with Prescott hosting.

Osceola won the meet edging New Richmond 162-163. Ellsworth finished third with a nine hole score of 174 followed by Amery 182, Somerset 183, Prescott 196, Baldwin-Woodville 218 and Durand 219. Osceola's Dan Cronick had the best individual score with a 36.

Spring Valley's golf team competed in a Dunn-St. Croix meet at Glen Hills, Golf Course in Glenwood City. The Cardinals finished third with a score of 194. Glenwood City won the meet with a score of 172 led by meet medalist Jake Hierlmeier's score of 40.

In prep baseball, Elk Mound topped Elmwood 14-1 in six innings in Elmwood. Winning pitcher Brandon Bohl struck out 14 batters and tossed a three-hitter. Dane Lew led the Mounders, 2-2 overall, with three hits, two runs and four RBIs. Noah wells, Travis Joyce and Hunter Freyholtz all had hits for Elmwood.

Also looking for its first win was Spring Valley's softball team. The Cardinals lost in five innings at home to Colfax 18-8. SV lead 6-5 after two innings but 12 Vikings hits plus eight Cardinal errors helped Colfax score nine runs in the top of the fifth to win the game by 10-run rule. Nevada Schlegel and Maria Nygren both hit home runs for Spring Valley and both had two hits. Courtney Ottinger went 3-for-3 with double for Colfax, 2-2 overall.

Today's schedule is a busy one. Ellsworth is at New Richmond in tennis, Spring Valley golfs at Mondovi. In baseball Plum City is at Spring Valley, Elmwood at Alma/Pepin, Prescott at Durand and Ellsworth hosts Osceola. In softball: Glenwood City is at Spring Valley, Alma/Pepin at Elmwood/Plum City, Baldwin-Woodville at Prescott and Ellsworth is at New Richmond.
