PIERCE COUNTY PREP SCOREBOARD: Ellsworth, SV survives scares to stay undefeated

The Ellsworth and Spring Valley prep boys baseball teams remained undefeated but had to struggle to do so Tuesday afternoon.

No. 1 ranked EHS just edged New Richmond 3-2 at New Richmond. Logan Armstrong got the win in relief. Dennis Schutz had three hits for the Panthers while Nick Taranto drove in two runs.

Spring Valley beat rival Elmwood 11-3 but the Raiders led 1-0 until the bottom of the third and only trailed 4-3 in the sixth. The Cardinal didn't break the game open until the bottom of the the inning when they plated six runs. Jake Helmer was the winning pitcher as he struck out nine batters. He also led SV in hits with two RBIs. Sean Ortner had two hits and two RBIs as well.  Noah Wells had two hits for Elmwood. Valley will look to hold on to its lead in the Dunn-St. Croix Small Division against second place Alma/Pepin Thursday in Spring Valley staring at 5 p.m.

In softball, Ellsworth's winning streak is now at six in a row after Panthers dispatched Somerset 6-2 Tuesday in Somerset. EHS improves to 6-3 in the MBC and will take on No. 1 ranked Baldwin-Woodville in Baldwin Thursday. First pitch will be at 5 p.m.

No. 8 Prescott wiped out Baldwin-Woodville in baseball 18-1

Eau Claire Regis defeated Ellsworth 7-0 in boys' tennis

Elk Mound edged Elmwood/Plum City in softball 10-6

New Richmond stopped Prescott's winning streak in softball at three as they topped the Cardinals 13-1

Spring Valley's golf team finished third in its first home meet of the season, shooting a 191 in a Dunn-St. Croix meet. The Cardinals will be back at home again Thursday at the Spring Valley Golf Course starting at 4:30 p.m.

The rest of Thursday's schedule has Ellsworth at Durand in boys' tennis, Elmwood/Plum City and Spring Valley's track teams at the Amery Invitational, Prescott at Osceola in softball, Elmwood/Plum City at Spring Valley in softball; Elmwood at Glenwood City in baseball and Plum City at Elk Mound in baseball.
