HAGER CITY – Ellsworth’s Dennis Schutz blasted a hit into deep centerfield  with the bases loaded and no outs in the bottom of the eighth inning to win a WIAA Division 2 regional tournament championship game for No. 3 ranked Ellsworth over No. 5 Prescott 5-4 Friday afternoon at Brown Field.

Prescott held a 4-0 lead in the fifth when EHS plated four runs. Both Schutz and Logan Armstrong drove in RBI singles while Schutz himself scored on an error and Mike Koch hit an RBI sacrifice to tie the game.

Armstrong was the winning pitcher as he held Prescott in check coming into the game in the fourth inning.  He put out many of the Cardinals’ top batters.

The top four batters of Prescott line-up: Clay Seifert-Alex Helmer-MIke Brookshaw-Justin Lynner, did the bulk of the team's hitting, especially in the first four innings of play. Helmer had four hits to lead the Cardinals and Matt Holman had two-RBI single in the first to put PHS ahead 2-0. Prescott scored its other two runs off errors.

No. 3 ranked Ellsworth improves to 18-3 overall and advances to the Altoona Sectional tournament Tuesday where they will play No. 9 ranked Viroqua in one semifinal game beginning at 1:30 p.m.
