Pierce County high school football teams began their seasons this week.

The Ellsworth Panthers were working hard to maintain the success their program had last season with three undefeated, regular season squads: varsity, JV and freshmen.

The EHS varsity team got some good news in that regard as All-MBC quarterback Emery Whalen has decided to stay with the Panther program instead of transferring to Tartan High School in Oakdale, Minn.

County teams will scrimmage next weekend and will begin their regular seasons Aug. 22.
