School's back in session and so are prep sports Thursday

After a mostly light schedule of prep sports the past few days, the schedule ramps up again for Pierce County teams Thursday.

The big event is the St. Croix Central Invitational cross country meet in Hammond starting at 4 p.m at Central High School. Ellsworth, Prescott, Spring Valley and Elmwood/Plum City will all take part in the meet. Also competing besides the hosts SCC are Boyceville, Baldwin-Woodville, Colfax, Chetek-Weyerhaeuser, Glenwood City, Mondovi, Durand, Osceola, Somerset and St. Croix Falls.

The Middle Border Conference's girls' golf season resumes Thursday with a meet also in Hammond with SCC the host at the Hammond Golf Course. Next Monday they will be at New Richmond

Ellsworth's girls' tennis team will be in action at New Richmond. They will be at a tournament in Phillips this Saturday.

Thursday's volleyball schedule has Ellsworth at home for the first time this season playing St. Croix Central and Glenwood City in a triangular meet starting at 5:30 p.m. Elmwood is at Alma and Plum City takes part in the Durand Quad meet along with Pepin, Cochrane-Fountain City and the host Panthers. The meet begins at 5 p.m.

Spring Valley's volleyball team hosts its own invite meet on Saturday starting at 9 a.m. Plum City will take part in it this season. 

Ellsworth's volleyball team will be at home again Tuesday hosting an MBC quadrangular with New Richmond, Prescott and Durand.

The first statewide volleyball coaches poll has been released. Here's is a link to it:

The second state football coaches' poll has been released as well ( Spring Valley still remains at No. 10 in Division 6 after defeating Elmwood/Plum City last week 20-6. The Cardinals are at home again facing Elk Mound in their Dunn-St. Croix Conference opener.  

Also regionally, Somerset moves into the top spot in Division 4, Alma/Pepin is the sixth best team in the state in Division 7 with Owen-Withee owning the No. 1 ranking.
